Affiliated to Athletics Federation of India in the year 2003, 3 years after the creation of Jharkhand from erstwhile Bihar State. Since then Jharkhand Athletics Association has been involved in promoting the sport of Athletics in the State of Jharkhand. Presently Jharkhand Athletics Association has 24 affiliated District Associations in the State of Jharkhand.
Jharkhand Athletics Association has been an integral part of AFI and has been instrumental in supplementing the efforts of AFI in popularising the event of Athletics in the State of Jharkhand.
Presently we have only two synthetic track in the state, the first one at JRD Tata Sports Complex at Jamshedpur and the second one at Birsa Munda Athletics Stadium at Hotwar Ranchi. The Stadium at Ranchi is a 9 lane synthetic surface with 8 lane warm up surface adjacent to the Main Stadium.
Since the 34th National Games organised at Ranchi in the year 2011, Jharkhand Athletics Association has organised 11 National level Athletics Championship including National Open Senior, National Junior Athletics Championship, East Zone Junior and Inter Zonal Junior Athletics Championships.
Apart from that in 2013 Jharkhand Athletics Association organised 2nd South Asian Junior Athletics Championship at Ranchi.
Jharkhand Athletics Association on the advise of Athletics Federation of India submitted its proposal to hold 22nd Asian Athletics Championship 2017 to the Government of Jharkhand. Under the dynamic Sportsmanship and leadership of Sri Raghuvar Das Ji Honourable Chief Minister , the Government of Jharkhand accepted our request to host the 22nd Asian Athletics Championship at Ranchi in 2017. The dates has also been finalised at the AAA Council Meeting at Doha last month.
Suddenly in the month of February 2017 the Sports Department refused to organise this event without mentioning any reason which created very BAD NAME of Jharkhand Sports worldwide. But Thanks to the AFI’s commitment for development of Athletics in the Country coupled with the support of ODISHA GOVERNMENT and commitment of AFI under the dynamic leadership of DR Lalit K Bhanot and our President MR Adille J Sumariwalla we could host this event at Bhubaneshwar.
The event was the best ever in the History of Asian Athletics in terms of Organisation and in Terms of Result for Indian Athletes. Indian Team won Overall Championship with record 28 Medals at Asian Level.
Lateron Jharkhand became one of the pillar in the field of Athletics and organised minimum two National Championships every year.
Recently after the denial of Karnatak to host National Open Athletics Championships to be held at Banglore, the event was allotted to be organised at Ranchi by Jharkhand Athletics Association which became one of the best organised National Open Athletics Championships in country. The event was appreciated by one and all. Jharkhand’s Priyanka Kerketta first time won GOLD medal in Women Long Jump.
Later on again after refusal of Organising 3rd International and 7th National Race walking Championships by Tamilnadu Athletics Association to be held at Chennai, the event was again allotted to Jharkhand. We accepted the event and organised it in befitting manner at ranchi and one of Indian Athlete Bhawana Jat from Rajsthan qualified for Olympics and also 10 Athletes in Junior categories qualified for World Cup Race walk.
Jharkhand Athletics Association with the support of its District Units and all officials are capable of Organising many Athletics Activities and bringing glory for the state.
